Unlike the many Upstate communities that have lost their manufacturing base, Corning benefits from the continuing presence and largesse of a major corporate presence. The Corning Inc. Foundation disbursed more than $3.5 million in 2023, much of it to local nonprofits. Corning Museum of Glass and the Rockwell Museum are magnets for tourists and foundation grants, and Corning Community College draws state education funds.
